Behind the Lens: Capturing Paula Alvarado in Amauri Uscanga’s Designs
The Power of Spontaneity
When I step into the studio for a shoot, my focus is always on bringing the client’s vision to life while showcasing their strength and confidence. This recent collaboration with model Paula Alvarado brought in pieces from fashion designer Amauri Uscanga, and I knew exactly how I wanted to capture her, especially when the unexpected becomes the highlight.
When Plans Change for the Better
This shoot wasn’t carefully planned, so I was thinking of just being spontaneous and pushing myself to do something different. Paula brought three outfits to the shoot but surprised us by bringing an additional orange outfit that wasn’t part of our original concept. The moment I saw her dressed in that burnt-orange bodysuit with its flowing drape, I knew we had something special. Sometimes the most striking images come from these unplanned moments, and boy, did we capture something extraordinary.

Bold Design Meets Natural Elegance
Amauri’s pieces were already bold, refined, and made to turn heads. The dramatic black ensemble layered with textures carried its own story, which Paula elevated with her natural poise and elegance. But it was that surprise orange piece that became the standout moment of the entire session.
Creating the Perfect Lighting Recipe
I wanted the shoot to feel classic and timeless, so I dialed up a clean and crisp lighting recipe. I wanted a little bit of drama in the shadows but no distractions—just Paula, the garments, and her elegant posing. Paula, being a well-trained model, knew exactly how to move. She gave me everything from sharp power stances to softer, refined gestures. But overall, she was having what we call a “Be Bold Be You” moment.
The Art of Collaboration
This shoot was more than just capturing outfits; it was about creating images that designers, stylists, and models can look at and see themselves elevated. Photography is about collaboration, and when all the right elements align—strong design, a talented subject, creative direction, and openness to spontaneity—the results are unforgettable.
